Tonometry

The tonometry is an examination of the eye for the measurement of intraocular pressure. It is carried out either with a small measuring sensor, which is placed on the ocular surface. Or with a device that eye pressure without eye contact measures by air blast. The eye pressure measurement is used primarily for prevention and diagnosis of glaucoma (glaucoma) used.

The eyeball has a certain pressure, similar to a football inside. This intraocular pressure is caused by the aqueous humor, a clear liquid that is produced in the eye and flows out again through a duct system. The eye pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). The normal eye pressure is between 10 and 21 mmHg and depends inter alia on the time of day.
