Vaccinations During Pregnancy
Double Protection – For You and Your Baby.
Did you know?
Certain vaccinations during pregnancy protect not only you as the expectant mother but also your baby during the first months of life – through what’s known as passive (nest) immunity.
Pertussis (Whooping Cough):
- Standard vaccination in the third trimester – ideally between 28 and 32 weeks
- Can be given earlier if there is a risk of preterm birth
- Recommended during every pregnancy, regardless of previous vaccination status
- Protects the newborn from severe whooping cough
Influenza (Flu):
- Recommended from the second trimester, or earlier in cases of chronic illness
- Protects against severe illness and complications during pregnancy
COVID-19:
- Vaccination with an mRNA vaccine is recommended from the second trimester
- Reduces the risk of severe illness and preterm birth
RSV Vaccination:
- RSV can cause severe respiratory infections in infants
- Single dose of RSV vaccine (Arexvy®) between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy
- Recommended between September and March (RSV season)
- Especially recommended if older siblings are in daycare or preschool
